THROUGHOUT THE CITY- The inaugural Gallery Weekend Kuala Lumpur (GWKL) celebrates contemporary, multi-disciplinary narratives and practices in Malaysian art and design. Program content will provide a meaningful introduction to cutting-edge art & design in Malaysia, along with an overview of Malaysian cultural heritage and a variety of gastronomic delights.
Institutions participating in this one-of-a-kind weekend—ranging broadly from high-end, internationally renowned public institutions to grass roots, local studios—have been selected on the basis of their thoughtful curatorial practices and content-driven cultural engagement and leadership. Through specially curated exhibitions, commissioned works and projects, these venues present a unique introduction to KL’s dynamic contemporary creative scene.
The GWKL 2016 will feature a Luminary Pulse Series, supported by the Aga Khan Awards for Architecture (AKAA), with talks by/panel discussions with noteworthy international, multidisciplinary talents.
In addition to Gallery Cluster Tours, independent projects and public institution features, planned cultural tours will provide insights into numerous points of interest in Greater Kuala Lumpur.
All GWKL 2016 exhibitions and programs are free, including the Luminary Pulse events. Exhibitions will continue through December. For more of Greater Kuala Lumpur’s quality cultural experiences, see Culture Connoisseur.
